We have reportedi) that green tea had a preventive effect on D-galactosamine (GalN)-induced liver injury in rats. The activities were mainly ascribed to three fractions, n-butanol-soluble, soluble, and insoluble in 70% ethanol.2) Among them the n-butanol soluble fraction was found to contain at least six glycosidic fiavonoids as its main constituents.3} In our continuing studies on these constituents, five glycosidic fiavonoids were isolated. This paper describes the first characterization of the constituents from green tea that have a protective effect against the liver injury induced by GalN.
